Inspiring Office Space

After having spent a long career as an ad guy, I have gotten used to working in amazing office spaces. Filled with art, games, massages, pizza, snacks, drinks and more.

As I ventured out on my own I thought I would have to say goodbye to cool office space as I would be working from home. What I have found is quite the opposite. I have been missing out on some of the most unique and inspiring places to work.

Yes, I do a fair amount of work from my home office, but most of the time I head out to find a spot to work outside of my home. A few of the places, both on my own or for meetings, that I have found to be great workspaces are:

  • Underneath a Tesla coil at the Museum of Science and Industry

  • On the lawns of the Bahá'í House of Worship

  • A rooftop restaurant overlooking Lincoln Park

  • A variety of nooks and crannies at Millennium Park

  • At a construction site at a 100+ year old building built by the Freemasons

  • A variety of craft breweries

  • The winter garden at the Harold Washington library

  • Lobbies of posh hotels

One of my favorite places to work is the beach. As today was likely the last warm day for a long while, I took advantage by sitting next to the water at Oak Street beach. I caught some rays while sending out emails and preparing for an upcoming brand strategy workshop.

On my bike ride back home I reflected about how my new "office" space inspires and energizes me more than any other office space. If I am fortunate enough to have Fireflyhigh grow to the point where I have full-time staff, I will need office space. However, I will make sure that we spend as little time as possible in that space so that we can be our best selves possible by working in the places that enable us to unleash our inner light.

Go ahead work from home sometime this week. But by home, make sure it is a place where your inner light shines bright.

Please leave a comment on your favorite place to work from.
